Chardonnay
Originally from Burgundy, Chardonnay is the most famous white grape variety in the world. Introduced in Trentino at the end of the nineteenth century, it found a particularly favourable environment in this area, so much so that over time it attained a high level of quality and become the most cultivated white grape variety in the province. Widespread in almost all the wine-growing areas of Trentino, Chardonnay adapts well to various soil and climate conditions, presenting different characteristics depending on the cultivation zones.
The bunch is generally compact, with a winged shape and ripens early. The yellow grapes become amber when fully ripe, the skin is tough and the pulp is sweet and citrusy.
It is the basis of both highly elegant still white wines and, historically, of the classic Trentodoc sparkling wines, of which it is the main variety. Recognised as a DOC since 1984, it is considered one of the most authoritative interpreters of Trentino’s wine-making identity.
