Marzemino
Symbol of Vallagarina, Marzemino is a native variety that has found its most complete expression in this area, after being probably introduced from Dalmatia during the time of the Serenissima Republic of Venice. Its fame is also linked to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who, in Don Giovanni, praises the qualities of the “excellent Marzemino”, then sweet and alluring. Today it is mainly produced in the dry version, maintaining a gentle and balanced profile: a red capable of combining fragrance and structure, positioning itself as a harmonious synthesis between the immediacy of young wines and the character of more traditional reds.
In Trentino, the most renowned growing area is the Vallagarina and in particular the two opposing areas to the right and left of the Adige: the area located on the basaltic hills around Isera, which produce a savoury and “mild” wine, and the areas of Nomi, Mori and especially Volano (in the “Ziresi” area), where the mainly clayey soil and the southern exposure make it richer, more full-bodied and long-lived. The climate of this area is sub-continental with harsh, snowy winters and hot, but breezy summers with cool nights. The bunch is long, cylindrical and pyramidal, winged and medium compact. The pulp of the grapes is fleshy and very sweet.
