MASO CERVARA Teroldego Rotaliano

Teroldego has always played a highly prestigious role in Trentino wine-making and for this reason Cesare Battisti referred to it as the “princely wine” of Trentino. No-one has yet been able to affirm anything with certainty about its origins, which have been documented since at least the 14th century and whose name, of ambiguous etymology, is sometimes traced back to the expression “Tiroler Gold”, or “Tyrol gold”, to underline its value. Certainly, it is known that the first mention of the name of this grape variety in literature dates back to the 18th century in the wine disquisitions of Michelangelo Mariani, historian of the Council of Trent. Its producers were the first, in 1948, to form a Consortium for the Protection of Teroldego Rotaliano and were the first, in 1970, to obtain recognition of the Controlled Designation of Origin. The ageing in barriques and barrels gives this wine structure and character, enhancing the sweet tannins that make it velvety and enveloping.
