Nosiola

NOSIOLA 8 (1)

Nosiola

The only native white grape variety in Trentino, Nosiola has been cultivated for centuries in historically suitable areas such as the Valle dei Laghi and the Colline Avisiane. Some details of the wines described by Mariani in the chronicles of the Council of Trent (1545-1563) published in 1673, might lead us to believe that the cultivation of this vine in Trentino was already present in that period. Its name recalls the hazelnut colour of the shoots and the delicate aromatic nuances that characterise the wines produced from it. A grape variety of very limited diffusion because it is very demanding, it prefers ventilated hills and soils with a low level of grey marl, even dry ones, essential conditions to develop balance and finesse.

Nosiola

The bunch is irregular, sometimes winged, mostly compact. The skin is green-yellow and the pulp is neutral. Its grapes, left to dry according to tradition until Easter week, are used to produce the Vino Santo Trentino, one of the rarest and most precious expressions of Trentino viticulture.
